Lochee Community Mural Project
Infinite Sky have been commissioned by Dundee City Council and Lochee History Group to work alongside the community to create a large scale public artwork between Adamson and Elders Courts.
The mural will celebrate the people, cultures and stories that make up Lochee - past, present and future.

Community Workshops
In June we visited St Mary’s and Ancrum Primaries, Lochee Library and the local History Group to explore ideas and gather content for the mural design.
There were some great suggestions for things to include… and we learnt a lot about the history of Lochee!
Did you know Lochee used to have 3 train stations? You also used to have to pay a toll just to enter Lochee, back in the day!
Pupils made their own paper self portraits which will be used in the design of the mural, and they were really excited about the thought of seeing themselves in the finished artwork!
One local lady called Helen made poppies, to acknowledge all the fallen soldiers in the First World War who came from Lochee, and told us about the amazing work she does with Love Lochee and the Residents and Tenants Association to create community events in the area.
Another lady called Joyce who runs the local community allotment designed a tree covered with berries and musical notes, to celebrate the berry picking past of Lochee and the different choirs and singing groups that are in the area.
It was great to get ideas, and be able to include local peoples suggestions in the project. Next step.. the design!

How it all started...
This project began with a simple idea from the Lochee History Group, who meet regularly at Lochee Library.
Alongside Dundee City Council’s Housing Team, they wanted to create something meaningful for the area - an artwork that reflects both Lochee’s past and the community that lives here today.
A call went out to artists to submit ideas for the mural, and we were really pleased to be selected for the project, based on our experience working on community-led murals and creative projects across Dundee.
From the start, it’s been clear that this isn’t just about creating a piece of artwork - it’s about working with local people to make something together.
The Idea
Lochee has a long history of people coming from different places to build a life here. From Irish and Highland families who came to work in the mills, to more recent arrivals from across Europe and Africa, the area has always been shaped by movement, change and new beginnings.
Lochee History Group decided that the aim of this mural is to recognise and celebrate that - and to create something that feels welcoming, inclusive and relevant to the people who live here now.
Our proposal was to create a design that will divide the walls into a series of flowing, organic panels. Rather than rigid boxes, these sections will curve and weave across the surface, creating dynamic movement.
Panels will represent different aspects of Lochee’s story, structured in a broadly linear timeline around the building.
This interwoven design will reflect connection and the idea that change is ongoing and that communities are shaped through interaction rather than separation.
The overall style will be fresh, vibrant and colourful - contemporary yet warm and friendly!
